The Feb. 2 primary is proving to be challenging to grassroots Republicans as we sort out a wide array of candidates for several offices ... the multiplicity of candidates an indication of happy expectations for victory in November here in Illinois.

An example within our own club: Our president, former State Rep. Penny Pullen, is endorsing businessman Andy McKenna for Governor, while our Wheeling Township Committeeman, Ruth O'Connell, is backing State Sen. Kirk Dillard for the same office. Each is giving the other room to work on their respective campaigns, though the two usually work in tandem, and both say the preservation of their friendship and close working relationship is their most important goal, demonstrating that we Republicans -- at least some of us (!) -- can disagree without being disagreeable.

On other races, Penny and Ruth are backing the same candidate (Patrick Hughes for U.S. Senate, Jim Dodge for State Comptroller, Robert Dold for 10th District Congressman). Just three weeks to go, and we'll all know who are candidates are to take the fight to the Democrats come November. It'll be good to have it settled.
